Year 3 students at a seminar at the University of South Bohemia Academic Library

Searching for reliable information, correctly citing sources and the ethical use of artificial intelligence – these were the main topics of a specialist seminar attended by all Year 3 pupils from our school at the University of South Bohemia’s Academic Library on 26 and 27 October 2026.

Under the guidance of Mgr. Klára Dvořáková, the pupils learnt about ways of searching for and verifying information, the principles of citation ethics, and the various forms of plagiarism. They learnt the difference between a direct quotation and a paraphrase, how to correctly cite sources used, and how to work with citation standards, including ČSN ISO 690. There were also practical demonstrations of how to cite different types of documents and an introduction to citation tools. Attention was also paid to the opportunities and risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence when working on academic texts. At the end of the lecture, the students were also given a tour of the University of South Bohemia’s Academic Library.

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from the lecturer, who praised our pupils’ attitude and active participation. The pupils will apply the knowledge gained from the seminar primarily when writing their end-of-year and A-level specialist projects, but also in their further studies at university.

We would like to thank lecturer Mgr. Klára Dvořáková for delivering the lecture to our students, and we look forward to further collaboration with the Academic Library.
