The Technical Primary School visited Strýčice Primary School: A day full of engineering and electrical engineering

On 15 September 2026, we set off into the field once again with our technical workshop on wheels. This time, our destination was Strýčice Primary School in the České Budějovice area. This catchment area primary school, attended by 260 pupils, educates children from a wide surrounding area, including Netolice, Dubné and neighbouring villages.

We arrived at our destination in a modern and environmentally friendly way – in our fully electric car ID. Buzz and a trailer with a storage box, which is fully equipped with professional tools from the Würth. The management of the host school did a brilliant job of organising our nearly five-hour technical vocational training programme in a large outdoor classroom with capacity for 80 pupils.

The programme was primarily intended for Year 9 pupils, who were joined by selected Year 8 pupils with a keen interest in technology, bringing the total number of participants to 30. At the start, the pupils were divided into two groups and, under the guidance of our experienced specialist teachers, Mr Lavička and Mr Rákos, they undertook an intensive programme focusing on mechanical and electrical engineering.

Engineering: From Theory to the Lathe and Polyfusion Welding

In the field of engineering, the programme initially focused on the theoretical part, during which the pupils learnt about the production process for pig iron and steel, as well as the basics of plastics processing. They then immediately put this theoretical knowledge into practice. They tried their hand at practical activities on a mini centre-point lathe and also tested polyfusion welding of plastic pipes for themselves.

Electronics: A homemade torch

In the electrical engineering section, the pupils worked under the guidance of a specialist teacher on assembling a printed circuit board. Using small electrical components, they built a working LED torch themselves. They then incorporated this finished, assembled printed circuit board into a plastic case bearing the school’s logo. The pupils were then able to keep this unique product as a memento.

We would like to thank the management of Strýčice Primary School for their warm welcome, and the pupils for their wonderful attitude and interest in technical subjects!

Feedback is always welcome – a post from the official website of Strýčice Primary School

,,On Tuesday 15 September, pupils in Years 8 and 9 took part in a technical programme organised by teachers from the Secondary School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in České Budějovice. During the hands-on workshops, the pupils made their own LED torches, tried their hand at using a lathe and welded plastic pipes. For most of them, it was also their first experience of soldering electronic components.

The pupils thus had the chance to try out a range of practical skills, familiarise themselves with modern technologies and realise that technical subjects are not just about theory, but above all about creativity, dexterity and the ability to tackle specific tasks. The programme was met with great interest and provided our pupils with new experiences and inspiration for their future studies.

”We would like to thank the teachers at SPŠSE Dukelská for organising such an engaging programme, and we look forward to further technical meetings together.”
