Sports Day began at 8.30 am on the football pitch in Stromovka. Classes from across the school took part in the programme and competed against one another in ten different events throughout the morning. Each class was allowed to field one team per event, and the results were then counted towards the overall standings.
The programme was varied and included both sporting and more leisurely activities. The pupils competed in disc golf, streetball, football, a sack race, basketball shooting, noughts and crosses, frisbee, badminton, pétanque and a final game of tug-of-war. Each discipline tested slightly different skills – ranging from physical fitness to accuracy and tactics, right through to teamwork.
Throughout the morning, there were tournaments of varying sizes. In football, matches were played in two groups on two pitches; streetball took the form of three-a-side matches; disc golf tested the accuracy of throws; and badminton tested concentration and patience in keeping the shuttlecock in the air. There were also some less traditional disciplines, such as sack races, pétanque and noughts and crosses, which added further variety to the programme.
The whole event culminated around midday with a tug-of-war, which is one of the most popular closing events. It brought with it a sense of excitement, loud cheering and a final burst of team spirit.
Out of a total of twelve participating classes, the class that scored the highest number of points was 2.EE, which came first. Second place went to the class 2.ER and third place went to the class 2.S.
The whole morning was characterised by a friendly atmosphere and a spirit of fair play. A big thank you goes to all the teachers who helped organise the sports day, as well as to all the pupils who took part in the competitions. It wasn’t easy in the sweltering heat, which makes all the participants’ dedication and sporting spirit all the more deserving of recognition.
