There was a lot of interest in this event and it was a pleasant surprise that out of a possible fifteen places, five were taken by girls. The task for the participants was to build an electronic kit in two levels of difficulty, within a set time limit. These were a blinking poinsettia and a siren. The participants were left with the assembled functional circuits.
At the beginning of the workshop, we explained the basic principles of circuit assembly and function and the basic rules of PCB mounting and soldering. The advantage was that all the participants already had some experience in the field of electronics. Probably the biggest problem for some of the contestants was soldering, as it requires some practice. The best results were achieved by those pupils who regularly attend electronics clubs.
First place went to Petr Eliška from Lišov Primary School, who was able to assemble both kits before the time limit. At the end of the workshop we evaluated the best works of the participants. The first five best ones will be invited to our school in spring 2020 and rewarded with prizes.
All participants received small gifts from our school. We hope that this workshop will help in making decisions about future studies after primary school and increase interest in technical education.
The workshop was supported by the South Bohemia Region's subsidy programme Support for Technical Education, priority area - competitiveness of the regional economy and labour market.
We are looking forward to similar participation and interest from students in the next competitive workshops that we will hold in January and February.
