Talents for Business 2019 competition

As every year, our school participated in the Talents for Business competition.

The event took place on 7 November 2019 from morning until late afternoon and was held at the České Budějovice Exhibition Centre as part of the Education and Craft exhibition. The role of team captain was once again presented by Mgr. The team members were selected from our Secondary Industrial School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and from the neighbouring Dukelská Primary School. Robin Franěk, David Pražák and Jan Semerád competed for the colours of the industrial school.

The aim of the competition was to assemble a previously unknown device from the Merkur kit in a given time and to breathe life into this device, all within the time constraint of three hours. The heart of the device, the BBC Micro:bit, was programmed by our high school students. The efforts of 12 teams from the Czech Republic and Austria were evaluated by a committee that continuously monitored the growing machines on their workbenches. The main evaluation criteria were the cooperation of the whole team and the accuracy of the model of the automatically controlled gate.

The conclusions of the evaluation committee in the form of announcing the ranking of individual teams took place in the neighbouring pavilion as part of the main accompanying programme of the exhibition. Two teams from Austria were evaluated separately and each team, whether from the Czech or Austrian side of the border, was rewarded with applause from the audience, recognition from other teams and material prizes.

Returning specifically to the EGE team, the first cries of joy were associated with the announcement of tenth place: "Yay, it's not us!!!" J. The enthusiasm, shouts of joy and ear-to-ear smiles of the entire team under competition number seven lasted until the announcement of sixth place! Thanks to all of you!
