Mercury Challenge (16 November 2021)

After a covid break last year, this year - under the auspices of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies of Brno University of Technology - the team competition Merkur Challenge was held again. SPŠSE participated in this competition for the fifth time.

Two three-person teams from our school entered the competition and chose the tasks "Race with the Sun" and "Autonomous Vehicle". The first assignment deals with the use of solar cells to power a rail vehicle, the second with orientation in space using ultrasonic sensors. Each assignment is mechanically based on the Merkur kit and electronically based on the Arduino platform.

This year's edition had - compared to previous years - a relatively brisk pace, as the opening and closing speeches were omitted. The competition itself was held in a very focused atmosphere. Our teams placed fourth (the "Race with the Sun" assignment) and sixth ("Autonomous Vehicle").

Both assignments were chosen by our students for the first time this year, so we perceived the competition more as a space to gain experience. We believe that we will participate in the next year's edition and maybe we will be on the top of the results list.
