The trip didn’t get off to the best start, as it soon became clear that the train was unlikely to arrive on time as per the timetable. In the end, due to unexpected technical problems with the train, the group of day-trippers arrived an hour later, but this did nothing to spoil their experience of the capital.

On arrival in Prague, the class used public transport and then set off on foot from the Pohořelec stop towards Prague Castle, where the students walked past St Vitus Cathedral and other landmarks, caught a glimpse of the start of Golden Lane and took photos of the view below Prague Castle. They then made their way along Nerudova Street, across Charles Bridge and along the river, through the winding side streets to Národní třída, where their second destination awaited them – the Máj department store, or rather the LEVELS Prague entertainment and gaming centre, which the group headed for after their lunch break. The pupils were given time cards, which allowed them two hours of games and entertainment of their own choosing.
The return journey went smoothly, and the students and their teachers arrived in České Budějovice on schedule. It is worth noting that the weather was on their side too; in the end, it wasn’t as hot as everyone had expected, so the trip was a success in every respect.
