To begin with, the students learnt about the history of the České Budějovice Aeroclub, how Hosín Airport operates, and the options available for flight training. They learnt what is involved in running an airport, how aircraft are prepared for flight, and what conditions must be met in order to fly.
This was followed by the practical part of the programme. Working in groups, the students examined the L-13 glider and a powered aeroplane, gaining an insight into how they are inspected and prepared before a flight. Another highlight was a visit to the control tower, from where they could observe air traffic control operations and watch aircraft take off directly from the airport. A pleasant surprise was the opportunity to see Red Bull Air Race pilot Martin Šonka’s special aircraft. Despite the very hot summer weather, the students enjoyed the excursion, and the programme provided them with a fascinating insight into the world of aviation at close quarters.
The tour was followed by a group lunch, which brought the whole trip to a pleasant close.
