With 2.EA and 2.EB for technology and art

On November 26, 2019, classes 2.EA and 2. EB visited the National Technical Museum (NTM) and the National Gallery in Prague.

The excursion, organized by the Czech language students, aimed to show the students both the art of the 19th century, which is also touched upon in the literature discussed this school year, as well as to introduce them to the expositions of the National Technical Museum.

It would seem that the NTM is not very much related to literature, but if we look through the exhibitions there, we will find several connections with Czech culture - for example, F. Š. Lomnický's poem at the Centaur tandem-tricycle, Václav Havel's eavesdropping methods in the Technique in Dictatorships exhibition, or the mention of the Rudolf concert, which, although it did not take place, nevertheless changed the Czech underground.

It should be added that the object of interest was not only the exhibits themselves, but also the accompanying information that the students used to fill in the worksheets. Part of the excursion was therefore based on working with the text.

The National Gallery in the Trade Fair Palace offered, among other things, the exhibition "1796-1918: Art of the Long Century", thanks to which we had the opportunity to see famous and lesser-known paintings created in the spirit of Romanticism, Realism, but also, for example, Cubism or Impressionism. We will also return to these movements in our Czech language and literature classes.

It was quite difficult for many to distinguish romanticism from realism in the paintings. In fact, one student remarked, "What I really liked was in the National Technical Museum. I don't really understand what's here." Still, everyone found a few works that interested them. And that was the main point.
