Project Days - Polytechnic Day (21 September 2021)

As part of the Project Day, 8th and 9th grade primary school students came to our school and participated in various thematic seminars.

Upon arrival, the students were divided into smaller working groups so that they could visit all the individual seminars in turn. Each topic was assigned to one lecturer who presented it both theoretically and practically.

For example, pupils could try grinding and cutting minerals (which highlighted the different densities and hardness of different working materials). They also learned about the history of electricity generation, the basic properties of electronic components and the principles of circuitry. Then they could try wiring simple circuits in the Voltík kit and observe waveforms using oscilloscopes.

The next station was a static tensile test (tear test). The aim was to make the pupils realise that each material has different mechanical properties and is therefore suitable for different uses. The pupils were introduced to measuring with basic measuring instruments (calipers, micrometer) and tried to evaluate the measurement results in prepared reports. Finally, the pupils tried working with the graphic tool Canva.
