Lectures on the European Union for 2nd ER

In February and March 2026, lectures about the European Union were held at our school, led by PhDr. Kateřina Marková, Regional Coordinator of Information Activities at Eurocenter České Budějovice. Pupils of the 2nd ER class took part in two thematic blocks entitled European Union in a Nutshell and Myths and Facts about the European Union as part of the Social Science Fundamentals course.

The aim of the first lecture The European Union in a nutshell was to provide pupils with basic information about the European Union. The lecturer introduced the activities of the Eurocentre České Budějovice, the offer of projects and competitions for students and the Erasmus+ programme. The lecture also included basic information about the EU, its currency, symbols and the activities of individual institutions.

The second lecture entitled Myths and facts about the European Union focused on the issue of hoaxes and disinformation. The lecturer explained to the students, for example, the reasons why it was forbidden to label spreadable butter or name rum. She also highlighted the risks associated with artificial intelligence, which can create misleading photographs, and stressed the importance of drawing information from verified sources.

During both lectures, students actively responded, engaged in discussion and asked interesting questions. The Kahoot activity, during which students repeated the content of each lecture in a fun way, was also a highlight.

Thanks to the lecturer Kateřina Marková for the realization of the lectures and for the long-term cooperation.
