At the lecture of Ing. Krejčová's lecture, we first reviewed the basics of EU history and looked at the current state of the European Union. She then outlined the likely concept of EU enlargement in the future. She also presented the so-called Copenhagen criteria, which govern the functioning of the EU. At the request of the students, Ing. Krejčová also briefly stopped at the topic of Brexit.
The next part of the lecture was devoted to the EU budget, introducing the budget for the period 2021-2027 and explaining the concept of cohesion policy. We learned how the EU budget is decided from the draft financial framework through negotiations of all Member States to reaching an agreement to the European Parliament's decision. The lecture also included an explanation of the priorities of the EU budget and the way the EU money reaches the Czech Republic. We learned how difficult it is to get subsidies and what controls are used to secure subsidies not only from the EU.
The students had many questions, and it was clear that some of them were very interested in this topic. We would like to thank the staff of Eurocenter České Budějovice for providing lectures at SPŠ SE this school year!
