Lecture for 2.S: European Union in a nutshell

On 27 March 2024 a lecture on the European Union in a nutshell took place, which was given by PhDr. Kateřina Marková, regional coordinator of information activities about the European Union from Eurocenter České Budějovice. The event took place in the framework of the ZSV course.

The aim of the lecture was to provide pupils with basic information about the EU. The lecturer briefly introduced the functioning of the Eurocentre Č. Budějovice, mentioned the web and Facebook pages of the Eurocentre. She also focused on the Member States, the history of the EU, its enlargement from 6 to 27 Member States. She also explained the functioning of the EU and the activities of the main EU institutions. The students were thus introduced to the European Council, the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission. Among other things, they also learned that the Council of Europe is a completely different organisation which is not an EU body.

PhDr. Kateřina Marková reminded that the European Parliament elections will take place on 7 and 8 June 2024, which some newly 18-year-old students from 2.S will be able to attend. In addition, she also outlined the possibilities of youth exchanges, such as Erasmus+ and others, and told the students where they can get more information about each activity.
