The lecture of Mrs. Ing. Dana Drábová, Ph.D. (23 January 2023)

On 23 January 2023, our school hosted a lecture by the Chairman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety Ing. Dana Drábová, Ph.D. Classes 4.EB and 4.EA attended the lecture and some students from the České Budějovice grammar schools also attended.

The whole lecture was opened by the school director Mgr. Jaroslav Koreš, Ph.D., who thanked Mrs. Drábová for her visit and her willingness to share important knowledge of nuclear physics with the students. Mrs. Dráb took the floor and started her speech with a general overview of nuclear physics. The main part of her lecture was, among other things, an explanation of how an atom actually splits.

Another important point of the lecture was nuclear safety. Engineer Drábová spoke about nuclear power plants, which are currently the main source of electricity in the Czech Republic. She also mentioned the current events in Ukraine from the perspective of nuclear safety. The last point of the lecture was a comparison of electricity sources in the Czech Republic with other European countries.

Mrs. Drábová's lecture lasted about an hour. The rest of the lecture belonged to Mr. Ing. Pavel Šimák, who focused on personnel and PR information related to NPP Temelín. He also mentioned various events that the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant offers in cooperation with the ČEZ Group.

At the end of the lecture, the students had the opportunity to ask questions, which were all answered by Mrs. Drábová. The lecture was a great success with the audience!
