The pupils were introduced to the current energy situation in the Czech Republic and the world and learned, in a simplified explanation, how the different types of power plants work and what share they have in the production of energy in the Czech Republic. The lecturers explained to the pupils which power plants should be developed in the future, why and how, and which ones should be got rid of because of emissions and ecological impact on the environment. It was also mentioned that although the losses on power lines are high, we are not yet able to reduce them and solve the situation satisfactorily.
Another topic of the lecture was radiation - evidence of its existence and ways of measuring it. The lecturers drew the students' attention to the fact that radiation is present, albeit in minimal amounts, all around us. JETE staff brought several objects and showed the pupils that radiation depends on the distance from the object. The pupils also experienced that a person, for example a classmate, can be used to shield a radioactive object perfectly.
There was also mention of electromobility - its future direction, its advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage was identified as the fact that the introduction of electromobility naturally increases electricity consumption, which means that we must subsequently be able to produce sufficient quantities of this energy. This is the biggest energy-related problem - the fact that we are not yet able to store and preserve electricity in large quantities.
During the lecture, students answered questions from the speakers. Those who answered the question correctly received a badge or other reward.
The pupils found the lecture very useful and interesting, they also enjoyed answering questions and competing for small prizes.
