The class met at 7:45 am right on the VŠTE campus. The following lectures were on the agenda:
- Nuclear for the future - Jan Kruml, Director of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant,
- Digitalization of processes in NPPs, examples from practice - Miroslav Choura, manager of the ICT management unit of the nuclear division of ČEZ,
- Core - communication challenge - Petr Šuleř, manager of the Nuclear Communication Unit,
- South Bohemian Nuclear Park and SMR development plans in the Czech Republic - Jakub Líman, SMR development manager; Lukáš Novotný, SMR expert,
- SMR - introduction in different dimensions - Jan Hejný, senior expert on power plant operations.
The lecture was opened with a presentation by the Director of Temelín Nuclear Power Plant Ing. Jan Kruml. He introduced the pupils to the future development of nuclear power not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Europe and the world. Subsequently, different types of electricity sources (wind, hydro, solar, coal and others) were compared. It was concluded that nuclear power plants are the most advantageous for us in terms of ecology, performance and, above all, reliability of electricity supply.
At the end of the day, the class was introduced to SMR or Small Modular Reactors. This is a nuclear power plant in a much smaller design. The power output of this plant is about four times less than a conventional plant. However, there is a possibility that SMRs could be mass-produced, making them more economically viable.
The lecture was very interesting and the students learned a lot of important information about nuclear energy. They were also introduced to jobs at Temelín, which they could take up after graduating from our school.
