Hospodarske noviny wrote about our school and the project of Technical Primary School

Our school SPŠ SE was mentioned in an article of Hospodářské noviny, which is dedicated to the development of technically oriented education in primary schools. The article was published under the headline „Instead of a multi-year high school, a technically oriented class. Havlíčkův man wants to spread them all over the Czech Republic, first regions join“.

We are very pleased that the project, in which our school has been involved for the second year, is also mentioned in the national media. The Hospodářské noviny headline highlights the idea of a technically oriented class as a possible alternative to the departure of pupils to multi-year grammar schools: „Instead of a multi-year high school, a technical class...“ (HN Archive, author Markéta Hronová, for subscribers). This idea is close to our hearts - we want to show pupils already in primary school that technology can be interesting, creative, practical and at the same time very promising.

In České Budějovice, the project Technical Elementary School was established last year. The project connects the primary school with the world of technical education in the workshops of our secondary school. Thanks to it, pupils can get closer acquainted with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, programming, 3D modelling and printing and other areas that are a common part of modern technical practice.

The mention in Hospodarske noviny is an encouragement for us and an appreciation of the work of all those involved in the development of technical education - teachers, students, school management, partners and the founder. We believe that projects like this can help children get to know their own abilities and interests better before deciding on their future studies.

Quote from article 1: “The pioneer was the director of the Secondary Industrial School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in České Budějovice, Jaroslav Koreš, who invented the „Technical Primary School“ project and in cooperation with the city, the region, the University of South Bohemia and ČEZ last year opened a sixth classroom at the Dukelská Primary School with extended technical education, where the first pupils started last September. The sixth-graders normally attend the primary school and twice a week they go to the workshops of the neighbouring industrial school for two hours. There they learn the basics of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, programming, 3D modelling and 3D printing. But they also learn how to work with everyday objects - for example, how to repair a bicycle.”

Quote from Article 2: Last year, 40 children applied for the technical class, but 24 eventually enrolled, including three girls. Those interested must pass entrance exams, which are held after the results of the Cermat's unified entrance exams for multi-year grammar schools are published. Some of the applicants apply there as well. The entrance exams for the technical classes are organised by the school itself and have three parts: a mathematics test, a cognitive test on the world of technology and a practical design task. In the practical part, the pupils created a bridge structure from given materials, which had to bridge a distance of about half a metre between benches and carry a PET bottle with water. Emphasis was placed on functionality, technical design and economical use of materials.
