The festival is one of the educational programs of the People in Need organization. It is a week of films with different themes - e.g. global climate, racism, sexual violence, extremism, etc. We chose a FollowMe film focusing on social networks, media literacy and Instagram. The hero of the documentary (a Dutch journalist) gradually exposed a complex system based on cheating, uncovering the brisk trade in user accounts and showing how a huge number of fake profiles are created. The question is, can anything on Instagram still be trusted?
The film was probably the best we've seen and experienced in almost two hours. Unfortunately, the mentioned company did not provide any of the previously announced guests who were supposed to discuss the issue with the students. The moderator was not enough. The students (sometimes very animatedly) discussed the difference between an advertisement and a spot. They reacted to different (advertising?) spots of the mentioned organization, also on the topic of the film. They were supposed to ask questions, but rather answered them.
Before the film, we saw a small exhibition from another project of the organization - Memory of Injustice, which is the memories of the memories of the 2nd and 3rd Resistance. As a result, we revisited several topics from World War 2, but we were also enriched with new concepts that we will use in Year 4 literature.
The event took place in the Studio Hall at the premises of Czech Radio ČB.
Thank you guys for representing the school well.
