The aim of the excursion was to get acquainted with the modern production of transformers, with the procedures, production technology from the beginning to impregnation and testing. In the course of the training, the students learn the theoretical basics, and in the practical training they design a network transformer according to their own required parameters and check the feasibility of their design. The excursion in the production plant, which is the competence centre for transformer production for the whole Fronius company, is a great combination of training and practice.
The Austrian company Fronius, which manufactures welding power supplies, charging power supplies and solar inverters, established a production plant in Český Krumlov in 1991 and transferred part of the production to Český Krumlov. As the company has developed, the production programme has changed and the Český Krumlov plant mainly produces wide-range transformers. This allowed the students to see the production of small transformers, which are mounted in the printed circuit boards of control electronics, but also power transformers, where copper strips are used for winding. The tour of the production of transformers operating at higher frequencies was also very interesting. It was particularly interesting to see the difference between the materials used for RF transformers and those used for mains frequency transformers. We also had the opportunity to see the very modern technology of winding toroidal transformers.
The excursion had a positive response from the students, so we will continue our visits to Fornius and we will also agree on the possibility of compulsory internships for second and third year students.
