Ludvík Čermák, a long-serving teacher at the Secondary Technical School, received the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports medal
On Thursday 10 September 2026, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport held a medal presentation ceremony. The highest honours in the field of education and upbringing were awarded to prominent figures in Czech pedagogy, including a teacher from our school, Ing. Ludvík Čermák. The medals were presented in person by Robert Plaga, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, at the Liechtenstein Palace in Malá Strana.

In his speech, Minister Robert Plaga noted that the Czech education system is undergoing a transformation and is increasingly embracing modern teaching methods. He emphasised, however, that even new approaches and technologies cannot replace the teacher themselves. According to him, it is teachers who play a vital role as guides to the younger generation, passing on not only knowledge and experience, but also their energy and setting a personal example. The Minister believes they deserve recognition and appreciation for this work.
Ludvík Čermák, Eng., was born during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia; this makes it all the more admirable that he is still actively working and teaching at the Secondary Technical School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in České Budějovice. He has devoted 34 years of his teaching career to this school – he has played a significant role in the school’s methodological leadership, acted as a mentor to young colleagues, and prepared hundreds of students for their school-leaving examinations; they remember him with respect and gratitude. Mr Čermák is able to explain even complex technical issues clearly, concisely and with great personal enthusiasm, thereby fostering an interest in technical education amongst his students. Thanks to his profound knowledge and experience, he represents the school in an exemplary manner and contributes to building its good reputation.
The medals are awarded in two grades: Grade 1 (silver) and Grade 2 (bronze). Candidates for the medals may be nominated by school representatives, teachers, parents, pupils and members of the public. The Minister for Education decides on the awards based on the nominations received.
We would like to thank Ludvík Čermák for everything he does for our school; we greatly appreciate his work. We wish him plenty of strength and enthusiasm for teaching our students in the years to come, as well as good health and plenty of energy for his other activities.
