On 6 October 2023, the 3.SB class took part in an excursion to ŠKODA Jaderné strojírenství, a. s., at the invitation of the company. Transportation was provided by the company.
First, the pupils visited the reactor hall in the Karlov part of Pilsen, where components and spare parts for nuclear reactors of the VVER 440 type used at the Dukovany power plant and the VVER 1000 at the Temelín nuclear power plant are manufactured. The pupils were introduced to the construction of the different types of nuclear reactors, the shape of the fuel cell cartridges. In particular, in the production hall, the pupils saw large carousel lathes for workpiece diameters of up to ten metres and heights of thirteen metres, milling machines for milling long plates, special lathes for turning internal diameters of long workpieces and also overhead overhead cranes with a capacity of up to 400 tonnes for handling workpieces.
Then we moved to the second part of the enterprise in the Bolevec part of Pilsen. Here control parts for all types of reactors are produced. The pupils visited the tool room, saw all the control mechanisms of the control and emergency rods. Finally, we visited the test room where the operation of the control system components is tested in real size.
The excursion was very successful from the professional point of view. The only problem was the transport - it took us seven hours to get there and back.
