The Lipno I hydroelectric power plant is one of the most important energy sources in the Czech Republic. The aim was to connect the theoretical knowledge from teaching with practice and to introduce students to the real operation of electricity production.

During the tour, the students had a unique opportunity to look into the underground operation of the power plant, to follow the path of water from the dam reservoir to the turbines and to learn about control, regulation and safety technologies. An important part of the explanation was also an explanation of the principle of the Francis turbine and its role in power generation.
The guides introduced the students not only to the technical aspects of the operation, but also to the importance of hydropower plants in the Czech energy sector and their role in the field of renewable energy sources.

The excursion was very beneficial for the students and demonstrated how important and interesting the field of electrical power engineering is in practice.

We would like to thank ČEZ and the staff of the consulting centre for their expert commentary and the opportunity to make this excursion possible.
