Part of the excursion was a tour of the datacenter facilities, especially the room with power distribution, where we learned about the energy balance of the center and the methods of power backup in the form of not only battery inverters, but also a diesel generator. The latter was even demonstrated to us in operation, as it was allowed to be brought forward by one day for its regular check start-up.

We also visited the computer room. Here we were very interested in the solution of the so-called cold-warm aisle (see photos). The pupils were also interested in the fire extinguishing system and the fire detection system. We learned comprehensive information about the possibilities of extinguishing (which can take place without interrupting the operation), both with different types of gases and with distilled water.

In addition to a tour of the datacenter, we were also introduced to the IoT (Internet of Things). We were divided into three groups and were able to try out a simple configuration of an IoT system with a smart button and a controller of colored LED strips. The last part was a demonstration of the different smart home systems with its advantages and disadvantages.

We all enjoyed the excursion very much. On the way back, we discussed the knowledge we had gained, so we didn't mind that the train to České Budějovice was 40 minutes late.
