The Kočín substation is important for the output of power from the Temelín power plant and for providing power to the plant's equipment in the event of an outage of its own sources. The substation has undergone extensive reconstruction and is an excellent example of a state-of-the-art power facility. The excursion is regularly organized in cooperation with the owner of the substation - ČEPS, a. s.
The school students had the opportunity to see the instrumentation and layout of the 400 kV substation itself, as well as related equipment such as transformers and reactors. There is also a 110 kV substation in the Kočín substation, so the pupils could compare the size and layout of both substations. An interesting feature of the substation is the HDO signal transmitter to control the blocking of appliances at customers during high tariff times. As the substation is a facility with the highest degree of supply reliability, it is equipped with a diesel generator in case of power failure.
Pupils also had the opportunity to see the substation control room and learn more about the role of the transmission system operator in ensuring system reliability and maintaining power balance in the system. The tours were accompanied by expert commentary, which perfectly complemented the interpretation of the topic during the electricity lessons. This role was played this year by Mr. Ondřej Dvořák on behalf of ČEPS, a. s. The pupils agreed that the excursion was of great benefit to them.
