Distance learning from 2. 11. 2020

Last week, a survey was conducted among students on distance learning, and I gave the results to the chairs of the SCs of the professional subjects most affected by it.

The results are not surprising:

  • a major problem in distance learning is for students in vocational subjects (which is understandable)
  • pupils often lack sufficient feedback
  • frequent comments were on the table with tasks

Therefore, from 2 November, distance learning will be implemented with the following changes:

  • any course that does not have online classes will include online tutorials.
  • teachers will record All assignments in the table, mark the submitted assignments in red
  • assignments will be given well in advance (usually a week)
  • teachers will enter the grades for the assignments into the Bachelor's Reports immediately after they have been corrected

I am not convinced that online teaching alone is the solution to the situation, I stand by my assertion that each teacher is able to choose the form and methods of teaching in order to make it as effective as possible. I don't want to introduce compulsory online classes with the idea that "we're done". Online tutorials are, in my opinion, a reasonable compromise in the situation - allowing students to question what they don't understand or to refine assignments. I recommend that students submit their questions in advance - both to prepare the teacher and to prepare themselves for the consultation. It is also an effort to involve pupils in distance learning so that they are not mere consumers but actively participate. If pupils do not raise questions or questions are answered before the lesson is over, the teacher may terminate the online consultation.

The reason why we have introduced the task board is to better inform all stakeholders about the teaching at SPŠ SE - pupils, parents and other teachers. Pupils are obliged to check the table daily, teachers are obliged to enter the assignments in the table. I believe that this is the best solution to the situation, moreover, completed tasks are marked in red for better orientation.
