During the course of their education, students of the Technical Primary School are introduced to subjects such as electrical engineering, programming and 3D printing. Teaching takes place in the building of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, where the project has its facilities and where experienced teachers of the school are involved in teaching technical subjects. In addition to theoretical knowledge, emphasis is also placed on the development of practical skills.
„Currently, only the sixth class is functioning. In the future, we would like to have one class from sixth to ninth grade, so four technical classes in total,“ said Jaroslav Koreš, director of the SPŠ SE České Budějovice.
Longer-term practical projects are part of the curriculum, which pupils work on gradually during the school year. „Students will always have a longer-term real-world project. In the first half of the year they made a small Christmas tree with lighting, in the final year it should be 3D printing and microcomputer programming,“ added Jaroslav Koreš.
The technical basic school will also serve as a preparation for the Electrical Power Engineering major, which the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in České Budějovice opened four years ago in cooperation with CEZ Group.
„Our goal is not only the quality of education, but also the motivation of students to study and work in technology and technical fields. Thanks to our cooperation with a strong employer, we are continuously improving the quality of teaching and bringing more children into technology. The school is equipped with modern facilities, we are continuously updating the curriculum and the technical primary school is another step to educate skilled young people who will be in demand in the field,“ said Jaroslav Koreš, director of SPŠ SE České Budějovice.
The development of technical education has long been supported by the CEZ Energy Group, for which it is important to ensure a sufficient number of qualified specialists in the future.
„We are always looking for quality people with an interest in technology and the right skills. Moreover, we have important development projects ahead of us, such as the new nuclear units at Dukovany or the small modular reactor at Temelin. And these are huge opportunities where today's primary and secondary school pupils may find interesting jobs in the future,“ said Michaela Chaloupková, Member of the Board of Directors of ČEZ and Director of the Administration Division.
During her visit to the school, Michaela Chaloupková saw the products of the pupils of the Technical Primary School and had a look at the teaching in the workshops of this class. She also visited the girls' club of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, where she met sixteen girls studying technical fields.
„In the past, girls were rather rare in technology and energy. Fortunately, this is changing. At CEZ, we have long been trying to present energy to girls as a promising field where they can grow in their careers. That is why I am very happy that the interest of girls is gradually growing. For example, last year the number of women working in our nuclear power plants increased by almost twenty percent,“ added Michaela Chaloupková.
