Technical Olympiad

Technology is not just about counting examples or describing machines. Show your ingenuity and make your own machine. The best solvers will advance to the regional round and all those who submit their solutions and apply to our school will receive extra points for admissions.

Most of the competitors who applied to our school in previous years were actually accepted.

The Technical Olympiad is a competition designed for those primary school pupils who enjoy technology. Through simple tasks we want to show that technology is interesting, meaningful and allows self-realization. The aim of this competition is not to count or describe machines, but to make your own machine. Each task has a simple assignment and it is up to the contestants how they solve it. The best solvers will advance to the regional round, and all those who submit their solutions and apply to our school will receive extra points in the admissions process.

We cooperate with Department of Applied Physics and Technology University of South Bohemia and supports us and South Bohemia regionCEZ Group.

Every point counts in the admissions process!

TECHNICAL OLYMPIDE - how is it going?

  • When evaluating the results of the admission procedure, the headmaster takes into account, among other things, the applicant's fulfilment of the criteria, that demonstrate the applicant's suitable skills, knowledge and interests (according to § 60d of the Education Act).
  • We want take into account the interest in studying at our school (bonus for TO participants).

  • We brought a new competition in technical education promoting technology and technical thinking.

  • The TO assignment offers topics for teaching in primary school and for leisure clubs (inspiration).

  • The competition was also born out of the belief that even primary school pupils have the potential to create, discover and come up with original solutions.

The Technical Olympiad is based on several key principles that determine its specific character.

  • There is no predetermined solution to the challenges in the competition - any original work is welcome and judged as correct.
  • The assignment is deliberately conceived as loosely as possible to provide space for their own ideas and to encourage the self-fulfilment of the competitors.
  • The goal is to create your own functional product or machine, with the emphasis on the joy of discovery and creation.
  • The solution will be based on commonly available tools, or we will donate the necessary special equipment, such as motors, switches or prints from a 3D printer.
  • The competition is practically oriented - it does not require any calculations or complex theory. Participants submit a video and a short description of the solution.
  • The tasks are mainly in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on the ability to apply knowledge in practice and find a functional technical solution.

Regional round

  • The regional round is organized by the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Technical Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia.
  • The best solvers of the home round (10) who managed to impress the jury with their ideas, execution and determination are invited to the regional round.
  • The task in the regional round is thematically related to the home round, but the competitors have limited time to build, improve or fine-tune their product.

Rating

  • The jury evaluates not only the functionality of the resulting device, but also its technical design, creativity and the materials used, design and aesthetics, and last but not least the ability to present the idea - that is, concisely, clearly and with an emphasis on logical argumentation.
  • Competitors learn not only to create and invent, but also to communicate, respond to questions and defend their progress.
  • Success in the competition is not just about winning - the awards also come in the form of financial rewards and for the winners there is an experience for the whole class.
  • Respect and appreciation among classmates is also a significant value.
  • It is also gratifying that among the participants of the regional round there are also girls - they proved with their skill, creativity and determination that technology is definitely not just the domain of boys.
