4th year students on a field trip to CERN in Switzerland

From 6.10.2024 to 9.10.2024, students from classes 4.EA and 4.EB took part in a trip to CERN in Switzerland, one of the most important research centres in the world.

CERN specialises in particle physics research, particularly the study of the building blocks of matter and the forces that act between them. One of its most famous facilities is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where particles collide at very high energies, helping scientists discover new laws of physics.

CERN employs approximately 2 500 people, of which only 50 are nuclear physicists. The remainder are professionals in various fields, including electrical engineering, which represents a potential job opportunity for our students. To give you an idea, the annual electricity consumption of this science centre amounts to 1.3 TWh, which is equivalent to the consumption of the city of Brno.

During the trip we visited not only CERN, but also the Rhine Falls, the famous Swiss chocolate factory Maison Cailler and the picturesque town of Bronc. We stayed in a mountain hut in the village of Vaillars-Sur-Ollon, from where we had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.

The next point of the program was a tour of the city of Geneva, where we had the opportunity to see the most important monuments despite the heavy rain all day. On the last day, a trip to Glacier 3000 was planned, where we wanted to climb to an altitude of 3,000 m and walk on the famous Peak Walk Tissot bridge. Unfortunately, due to high winds, the cable car was out of service, so instead we headed to Bern to explore this beautiful city and its historic center.

The whole trip was an unforgettable experience full of interesting things and new experiences for all participants.
