Cooperation with companies: the functioning of the energy market

On 28 November 2024, as a result of the cooperation between the school and E.ON, a mini-lesson was held in the teaching of pupils of the 3rd and 4th years of the Electric Power Engineering course, the content of which was the principles of the energy market: the development of energy prices, trading (commodities and financial instruments), forecasting, modelling, general energy.

The energy market includes electricity and natural gas. Students learn about the interconnectedness of these markets, enabling them to understand the reasons that have led to energy crises in the past.

In the second part of the programme, the students discussed the impact of electricity production in renewable sources on the market situation in terms of balancing electricity production and consumption.

The teaching of energy according to the existing thematic plans is based on the principles of centralised electricity production, in which the role of ensuring a balanced balance between production and consumption is played by centralised production. A new market concept can be created by allowing self-generators of electricity in PV plants to intelligently manage the charging and discharging of their own batteries and by managing the consumption of self-generators so that they assist the electricity system in maintaining the power balance.

The mini-lesson included a lively discussion between the students and the lecturer, who also asked quiz questions (e.g. about customers' motivation to help the energy system).

The cooperation between the school and the electricity supplier E.ON will enable the pupils to understand the energy industry as it will be in the future and to see their application in completely new fields of energy.
