In January this year, a knockout round was held where a team of students had to create a program to drive a vehicle on a set course. Two teams from our school took part in this round and a team of 4.EA students consisting of Jáchym Cirhan, Martin Felenda, Matěj Kopeček and Jan Jacob Steringa advanced to the national final.
In the finals at the Brno University of Technology, each team was tasked with building a vehicle that would navigate a complex course in the shape of a lying figure eight, which was equipped with five randomly extending obstacles. The width of the track did not allow the vehicles made from the kit to go around the obstacles. The ride was limited by a time limit and the vehicle had to travel the route multiple times.
Our team built the vehicle and managed to partially test it. We relied on the fact that it was announced at the start of the day that all teams would be allowed to run the competition lap twice if they wished, with the second attempt then counting as a competition lap, regardless of whether the first if better than the second. However, this did not happen and the second round was not allowed.
Our team placed 5th.
As a prize, all participants of the final round were given the opportunity to enter the university without taking the mathematics and physics entrance exams.
