End of the year school events - 1st EE (walk through the town and Hněvkovice Mill)

On 24 June and 25 June 2025, the 1st EE class walked around the centre of Budějovice with a historical interpretation and the next day went to Hněvkovice.

School events - a walk with historical context

After cleaning the classroom, we went for a walk in the centre of České Budějovice on Tuesday 24 June 2025. First, we explained the division of roses of the Vítkov family to understand the founding of the city and then in the streets and alleys we talked about how the city fell in the Middle Ages and what its status was - interestingly, the city was visited several times by Charles IV or his son Wenceslas IV, there was also a pond at the confluence of the rivers for defense and the Czech crown jewels were hidden in the city. We also visited the Church of St. Nicholas and the South Bohemian Theatre, where we saw the beginnings of theatre in ČB. There were also Czech-Budejovice legends and a mention of Jaroslav Hašek.

School trip - Museum Mill Hněvkovice

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, we went on a school trip like most of the classes. In the morning we left for Týn nad Vltavou, then we had a four-kilometre journey around the river upstream to Hněvkovice on the right bank of the Vltava. The sun was starting to burn, but it was blowing, so we made it pretty fast. We had a snack at the museum and went to cool down in the exhibitions. We listened to how grain was milled, how it is with gluten, but also the history of the Královec family, who owned the mill and still own it today. It was certainly interesting to see the tools and gadgets, but also the turbine, information about the different engines and rotors. We saw 19th century farm equipment, an interwar household, how ironing was done, a collection of old cameras, a collection of light bulbs, but also lamps and much more. Also, why does every miller have a cap, a scarf around his neck and a pipe? So these are all working tools. And the information that millwright's wheels should never properly be seen at the mill is also interesting.

Our guides, Mr. and Mrs. Koubek (Mr. Koubek is a descendant of the original owners of the Královci), gave us a great time. The way back was more difficult, the sun was burning, it was hot, but thanks to the breeze it was possible to endure, we rewarded ourselves with a popsicle in Týn and drove back to ČB.
