Since the third year students of mechanical engineering have four demanding long-term theses from the subject of construction and operation of machines and from the subject of engineering technology in their curriculum, it was agreed at the subject committee that these students will not prepare independent year-long theses. Instead, a competition was launched for the most challenging assignment, the design of a two-stage spur gearbox. Each lecturer of the subject Machine Construction and Operation - Exercise selected one best paper from their group and this went through to the final round. There, all the specialist teachers of mechanical engineering, after studying the submitted works, voted and suggested the placement of each work. After the voting was completed, the placements were tallied and the student with the lowest total points (placement) won. The final results are shown in the table below.
