The event started at 9am when we were welcomed by one of the founders. Right from the beginning there was a very open and friendly atmosphere. The introductions were not just about formalities - on the contrary, we were actively encouraged to ask questions about anything that interested us.
This was followed by a series of very busy and inspiring lectures. The first of these was led by Daniel Havner, who gave us an overview of the Fixed brand story, how the company was founded, the challenges it faced in the early days and how it gradually expanded. It was very inspiring to hear how an initially small idea can become a brand with international reach.
Then Jan Moravec spoke, who focused on the management of the company, especially on the recruitment of new people. He stressed that for them it is not only skills that are most important, but above all the identity and personality of each candidate - they are looking for active people who have their own ideas and a desire to move things forward.
During the next lecture, we learned a lot of interesting facts about marketing and the huge impact of a brand's visual identity. Even a seemingly ordinary charger sells better when it carries a familiar logo - people don't just bet on quality, but also on the story and trust they feel for the brand.
The last speaker talked about product development. He explained the basic process from the initial idea through design to production and sales. We learned, for example, where they have the individual components manufactured, what their quality requirements are and how they try to differentiate themselves from the competition.
After the lectures, the students completed a feedback form. The evaluations were generally very positive - the students enjoyed the event, were interested in the variety of topics and the opportunity to gain insight into practice. Some would have liked to have been able to go even more in depth next time, perhaps into technical development or manufacturing processes themselves.
At the end, we had a very nice surprise waiting for us at the company - as a parting gift, each of us received one of their smaller products. The students were thrilled because they took home wireless chargers, bike holders or leather mobile phone cases. This unexpected bonus was a delight and a lovely end to a rewarding day.
