Excursion Prague: the 3rd SB visited Rudolfinum and Jewish Town (10 June 2024)

On Monday 10 June 2024, the 3.SB class went on a unique excursion to Prague. This time we watched a classical music program at the Rudolfinum and toured the famous Jewish Town of Josefov.

The journey to Prague was traditionally by train, then we moved on foot to the Rudolfinum. On the way we saw the main famous buildings (Powder Tower, Municipal House, House of the Black Mother of God, Old Town Hall, House of the Stone Bell, but also the Faculty of Arts of Charles University).

At the Rudolfinum we were treated to a concert My Country in honour of the anniversary of Bedřich Smetana's birth. Six symphonic pieces (Vyšehrad, Vltava, Šárka, From the Czech Meadows and Groves, Tábor and Blaník) were composed by the composer, most of them completely deaf. That is why this music is so fascinating. We heard the concert performed by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra (almost 80 musicians, including 36 violinists).

The second part of the excursion took us to the nearby Jewish Town. First, we learned about the history and uniqueness of the Jewish community in Bohemia and then we visited the Pinkas Synagogue with 77,000 names of Holocaust victims, we visited the Old Jewish Cemetery, and the exposition in the Klaus Synagogue brought us closer to Jewish life. The Old Synagogue, which is still functioning and is shrouded in many legends (including the legend of the Golem), is certainly interesting. We also visited the Maisel Synagogue, where there is an exhibition on the history of the Jewish community. On the way back to the station, we also waited for the walk of the apostles at the Prague Astronomical Clock.

The excursion was a success, the unusual content, good weather and our great students added to its uniqueness.
