Excursion to Prague - third year

Excursions are held regularly for third years. The goal is always Prague Castle (tour circuit B) and then an exhibition or exposition according to the current offer. This year we visited the Museum of Communism.

After buying tickets for a tour of Prague Castle, we went to St. Vitus Cathedral. We were surprised by the amount of people already when we were going through the security frames, but in the end we can say that we went through everything without much waiting.

In the cathedral, we saw what a medieval man saw and what a visitor to the opening ceremony after the completion of the cathedral in 1929 saw. We saw the painted stained glass windows of modern painters (A. Mucha, M. Švabinský), the silver tombstone of Jan Nepomucký, told ourselves interesting facts about the kings, builders, but also the wealth of the cathedral.

Then we visited the Old Royal Palace with the Vladislav Hall, saw the Window of Defenestration and the Old Chamber of Deputies. Our next steps were to the Basilica of St. George, where St. Ludmila is buried. Finally, we also moved to the Golden Lane. The students learned how F. Kafka, E. Kelly, J. Trnka, but also P. Coelho.

We then descended along the old royal road to the centre - across Nerudova Street, Charles Bridge to Old Town Square, past the Estates Theatre to the Municipal House. There the Museum of Communism was waiting for us. Students could learn about the development of communism in Czechoslovakia and everyday life at that time with the help of short information boards. There was something for everyone - some were interested in the division of the security forces, others in authentic accounts of emigration. We were also interested in terms such as Prague Spring, Charter 77, normalization, tuzex...

The excursion was very successful. We had beautiful weather, we learned a lot of interesting things, we visited places connected with the history, glory and fall of the Czech lands.
