Excursion to CERN

Selected pupils from classes 3.S and 3.ER took part in a study tour to Switzerland on 16-19 October 2025, the main objective of which was to visit CERN - the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

The first day of the excursion was devoted to the journey from the Czech Republic via Linz and Vienna to Geneva.

The next day, the group went directly to CERN. On arrival, everyone was given visitor cards and welcomed by a guide who gave a brief history of the organisation and its main tasks. The group then toured the first accelerator and had a look inside the data centre where huge amounts of data from experiments are processed (and stored). The pupils toured different parts of the site and also visited the CERN museum, where they learned more about the workings of the particle accelerators and the important discoveries made by scientists there, such as the office where the internet was created. The tour also included a visit to the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector, one of the four main detectors located at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The day ended with a consultation with the project leaders, which enabled our pupils to attend the event.

On the third day, the group went on a trip to Mont Blanc, where the participants took a short hike around the area.

The fourth day was dedicated to the return to the Czech Republic.

The excursion was very interesting and brought the students not only a lot of new knowledge in the field of physics, but also a lot of travel experiences.
