Excursion to the 1950s - Vojna u Příbrami labour camp and Anenský důl

On 15 May 2025, the 1st EM class went on an excursion to the Vojna labour camp near Příbram, and the pupils also visited the Anenský mine in the Mining Museum in Příbram.

Upon arriving at the labour camp, we were greeted by a gate with the sign "Work to Freedom" and we entered the camp area, barbed wire and guard towers all around us. In the background of the memorial we watched short documentary films about the period of unfreedom during the Second World War and the communist rule in our country, the rise to power and the Third Resistance. The next point of the program was a tour of the camp area with reconstructed period buildings of the former headquarters, correction, so-called bunker, infirmary, cultural house, accommodation building G and others.

We crossed to Příbram and visited the Mining Museum, which is located in the area of the "Anna mine", which was mined in 1789. The visit to the engine room with the technical monument - the Breitfeld & Daněk steam mining machine from 1914 - was already a great surprise and interesting. Then we entered the underground in the courtyard, where we rode the mine train through the 260 m long Prokopská Štálová to the mouth of the Prokop pit from 1832 (it is one of the deepest shafts in Central Europe). The guide impressed with his explanation, knowledge and interesting facts, he also promised to show the little gnomes, but he said that only those who work there can see them 😊

The excursion was a success despite the less favourable weather and was very interesting both from the point of view of history and mechanical engineering.
