The excursion gave students a deeper insight into the workings of hydropower and its contribution to renewable energy. The students were able to get a close look at the key facilities of the plant, including the weir, the lock, the transformer station and the engine room, which houses two Kaplan turbines, gearboxes, asynchronous generators and the control unit.
This visit significantly enriched the teaching of the subject Electricity - Renewable Energyas it allowed students to see theory in practice. The České Vrbné hydroelectric power plant is a great example of the efficient use of natural resources to produce electricity.
We would like to thank the operators of the power plant, namely Ing. Bedřich Čížek, for the opportunity of this visit and for the valuable information that will help our students to better understand the key principles of power engineering!
