Energy Olympics

On November 16, 2018, students of 4.EA participated in the national final of the Energy Olympiad at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University, where they took a great 3rd place.

Almost 300 trios participated in the school round, our school was represented by two teams, one of which, consisting of students František Beránek, Martin Peka and Ondřej Procházka, placed 21st and thus won participation in the finals. The second team, consisting of Radek Wipplinger, Jan Staněk and David Šerý, despite not reaching the finals, did not disgrace the school and placed in the first half.

The final was held in the building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and consisted of two parts. In the first half of the day, the students were presented with expert lectures on the topic of the competition (energy and energy literacy) by leaders in the field, and in the second part, the contestants moved to the National Technical Library and created a presentation on their chosen topic. There was a wide range of sectors to choose from, from electromobility to smart homes. The emphasis was on original ideas, organisation of information and the actual presentation of the work.

As one of the participants, I would like to add my personal opinion at the end. Although the information gained during the lectures and our own work is undoubtedly important, I think that the main benefit for us is the experience in teamwork, time management and presentation in front of an audience and jury, which we will certainly use in our future studies and work, as well as in our personal life.

Ondřej Procházka
